Easy DIY Kitchen Design

Follow these easy steps to create your new kitchen. My Kitchen Planner 3D gives you an instant estimated price with the option to buy a design pack that confirms your requirements with a professional re-design, a full quote and colour samples.

Measure and Choose Layout

The first step to designing your new kitchen is to measure the space in which it will be installed, allowing for windows, doors, electrical outlets and pipes. This step is probably the most important to get right. A bad measurement now means your kitchen may not fit later.

Make a sketch of the room, drawing in any doors and windows. As you move around the room with your measuring tape, write down the measurements on your sketch.

Measure the overall length and width of the room as well as the placement and size of all doors, windows, outlets and pipes.  Write down these sizes as you go.

Use millimeters (mm) for an exact fit.

Now choose the kitchen shape that best suits the available space. Popular layouts are illustrated below.

Go to My Kitchen Planner 3D to start planning your new kitchen.

Step 1 - Floorplan

Choose a floorplan from the column on the left. Click and drag it into the work space in the middle.

Change the lengths of the walls to match your measured kitchen area.

Use the boxes in the right hand column or drag the square boxes (A, B, etc) to scale.

Once complete click Step 2 to continue.

Saving & Loading

At any time during your kitchen design you can save and load new plans by clicking on the options on the top menu.

Step 2 - Design

Unit types are available from the LEFT MENU. Select the category, then drag and drop your selected units into position on the wall design area.

The RIGHT MENU will provide all options for the selected unit. Check the width to ensure your choices fit in the available space.

Doors & Windows

Drag and drop doors and windows into positions on the plan to match your kitchen measurements. Click the arrows or the small plan sketch to move around the room.

Corner Units

To choose a corner unit, click the Corner Units menu on the left. Drag, drop and position the selected corner unit up against the left hand wall on the wall design view. When this unit is in position, you can start to add other cupboards along side the corner unit.

Cupboard Units

Choose other types of cupboards to suit your needs. Drag and drop items from the left menu to the wall design view to complete your kitchen.

Switching Design Views

Experiment to get exactly the combination you want. Switch to plan design view at any time. Or click the buttons at the bottom of the work space to view your kitchen in 3D.

Design tips:

  • Place your fridge on the outer edge of your kitchen so people won't need to walk through the kitchen to get to it
  • Place the sink and dishwasher close together for easy dishwasher loading and cheaper plumbing
  • Allow space on each side of a cook top for saucepan handles and utensils
  • Leave plenty of room to move around the kitchen - walkways should be at least 800mm
  • Place microwave away from right hand corners because microwaves are hinged on the left
  • Check that your bench oven door and dishwasher door don’t clash, especially near corners

Step 3 - Colours

View colour options in the drop down menus in the column on the right.

Try out some of the many combinations of unit colour, benchtop colour and door handles.

Colours are indicative only and may appear different on different computers. If you Buy a Professional Design Pack in Step 4, we will send you a colour sample pack to help you check your selection.

When you have selected your colours and handles, click Step 4 to continue.

Rotate Room

Don't forget to click on the rotation arrow in the right hand corner to view all room angles.
